About Me

If you require a full CV then please contact me.

Who are you and why do I care?

I am Jason Griffith (Also known as Jay - hence the domain name), and you probably don't care!
Born in Guildford - Surrey UK, I have lived in a little village call Effingham for most my life until recently as I am currently in Portsmouth.

What do you do?

I am studying BSc (Hons) Computer Network Management and Design at the University of Portsmouth, currently in my second year. I'm in my second year at the moment and am currently looking for placement work.

I know a variety of programming languages:

I am very competent with Linux system configurations, using distributions such as Ubuntu, Suse, RedHat and CentOS. Like any good tech I am also good with Windows - all versions.

Also I'm in the process of studying for a CCNA with a view to get a CCIE at some point. I am very capable with Cisco equipment and configurations.

What work or projects have you been or are you involved in?

University of Portsmouth: Cisco Academy Remote Access

This project is a recent development and hasn't yet fully started. It's aim is to provide easy remote access to the Cisco equipment that the university has, to get its utilisation up and hence get better value for money, and better student access.

This will more than likely include the creation of some kind of booking system / rota, and seemed like a very interesting project to work on - why I volunteered. I will post updates about this as I get them.

University of Portsmouth: Open Day Guide

Recently I became involved in open days for the Electronic and Computer Engineering Dept. at the University of Portsmouth. This involves talking to prospective students and their parents regarding the university and 'uni life'.

As I am a Computer Networking student my self I help supervise a basic Cisco based lab designed to introduce some of the concepts that we deal with if they choose our university.

UberNet Ltd

At the end of 2005 I become the Managing director of UberNet Ltd, that is after helping found the official company. The idea however had existed before for a while with some of the RPG-X guys. The company deals in web hosting, some web design and general consultancy. (Contact me if you want special hosting prices ;) ). It has been running continuously and has a number of customers.

I am quite proud of what we have achieved, and intend to make it bigger in the future, and perhaps my 9-5 full time job.

RPG-X

This is perhaps the biggest and most well known project I have been involved in to date. RPG-X is a computer game modification for Star Trek: Elite Force (PC).
I joined after the project had started but had become one of the main coders (credited at lead coder in v1.0). The mod had thousands of downloads and a big following in the star trek RPG community.

I am no longer part of the team due to other concerns, RPG-X v2 has been significantly changed since I last touched the code. However I am very proud to have been on the team.

The mod its self was written in C. We had to learn what the pre-existing code did and how it functioned. The team consisted of many people working not just on code, but also new models, textures, menu layouts and maps. It became a total conversion mod with the exception that it was still based on Star Trek. It was a great challenge and great fun. I would look to become involved in another mod one day, though probably after university so that I have more time.

Gaming Server Provider

Before RPG-X or UberNet I had become involved in a game server 'company' hosting mostly Medal of Honor: Allied Assault servers. I gained a lot of experience through this, but it was not to last. I had again found I needed more than 24 hours in the day and pulled out.

The provider no longer exists.

Work Experience with CSi Ltd

Way back in school - year 10, we had to do work experience. I chose to do this with a small/medium company called Central Systems Installations Ltd, that dealt with computer networking and cabling solutions.

The reason I choose to list this one week's work here is that I believe it was one of the major points in my life that got me into the career that I am currently in.
Work involved interviewing clients, cable testing, system debugging and general office work.

Since you're writing the questions, what other things do you do?

You mean hobbies?....That don't revolve around computers? Hmm...

About the only thing I can come up with would be playing the guitar, and I'm pretty good at it. I like music in general and most instruments. Among what I have played: Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drums, Piano and Harmonica. Out of all those the only one I can really play is the guitar!

Well most my other hobbies involve computers in some way, like making web sites just like this one. Oh just thought of one, I also have an interest in physics, biology and religion. Now there's an odd mix!
